MISSION Our mission at Mearas is to develop professionals, educators, communities, organizations, and nations as the next generation of leaders by partnering with horses as guides. We teach individuals and groups how to establish trusted relationships, interact with integrity and inspire others. We are dedicated to the restoration and preservation of man's connection to nature, a natural order, and common good. We are committed to the plight of unwanted horses, man's greatest companion and true guide throughout history. We rescue and rehabilitate ex-thoroughbred race horses giving them a second chance in life as they serve to give us ours.

In J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the Mearas were a breed of wild horses in the north of Middle-earth.
They descend from Felaróf, who was tamed by the first King of Rohan. Felaróf was one of the greatest horses to have ever lived, and was said to understand the speech of Men. Ever since, they have been the mounts of the Kings and Princes of Rohan alone. This long tradition was broken by Gandalf, who managed to train the greatest of the Mearas of his time, Shadowfax, and rode that mighty horse throughout the War of the Ring. These were the Mearas, noble horses that lived as long as a Man, spoke the language of man, and had extraordinary strength and intelligence. The word Mearas comes from an Anglo-Saxon word meaning simply 'horses'.
