Mindfullness in Motion

Developing A New State of Awareness

In An Age of Complexity
Picture
Mindfulness Programs are sweeping corporate America. Companies such as Google, Target, Ford, Aetna and others are finding that mindfulness programs are going far beyond simple stress reduction. These programs have become the new productivity hack to bolster performance and make significant improvements to the bottom line.

The goal of mindfulness is to focus on "what is, in the present moment, without judging or needing to change anything". Most mindfulness programs start the participants with very small increments of time - such as two minutes and build the muscle to increase the amount of time one is in the practice, whether that is meditation, yoga or an attention practice. But what if we could move through the world in this state and equally important, notice when we are not?

Mindfulness In Motion accelerates the learning process by introducing three key elements into the understanding and development of a practice:

  • Experiential activities with horses accelerates the learning process
  • Non-classroom, nature-based setting shifts the brains learning state
  • Activation of the three learning centers in the body: Brain, Heart and Gut
Horses move through the world in a mindful state, staying in the present moment, noticing and responding to their environment and allowing their feelings and sensations to move through them fluidly. Horses don't spend much time in the past or in the future, they don't fret about the disagreement they had with their pasture mate the day before yesterday.

Horses have an amazing four point method for emotional agility as a result of their ability to be mindful:

  •     They feel their emotions in their purest form
  •     They get the message behind that emotion
  •     They take the action in response to that message
  •     And they go back to grazing

Horses actually show us that mindfulness is actually a state, not a practice, that they embody when they are in their natural environment.

A Recent Harvard Business Review Article Highlights the Power of Mindfulness Programs - Health Insurance Provider Aetna showed:
  • Stress levels dropped by 28%
  • Reported sleep quality improved 20%
  • Pain dropped by 19%
  • Gained 62 minutes of productivity a week, which is an estimated $3,000-per employee increase in productivity for the company each year.
  • Upwards to $5000 per year, per employee in medical savings through stress reduction

In This Workshop You Will Learn:
  • Common Mindfulness Practices
  • Mindfulness vs. Meditation - How to leverage each practice and why both are beneficial
  • Use your own body as a “sensing device” to deepen awareness of yourself and others
  • Use emotions as information (without, ironically, discussing the emotions themselves)
  • Engage in a body dialog to facilitate the quieting of the mind
  • How to stay calm in the midst of chaos
  • How to be present with the Tabula Rasa (Blank Slate) as the bridge to innovation, creativity and inspiration
